As your Democratic Central Committee Member, John will continue to educate citizens and register them to vote in Prince George's County as well as throughout the state of Maryland.
He will create opportunities for constituents to give input, provide suggestions and collaborate with other community leaders which will bring about unity in the effort of getting citizens engaged in the political process while creating solutions that will enhance everybody's quality of life.
As a teacher and life-long learner, John knows the value of an education and prepares all students to be ready for college or a career! He understands that some parents or guardians may not be able to afford both a college tuition and the necessities needed. As a result, he raised over $500.00 for the Mayor James L. Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund so the City of District Heights could provide scholarship money to a student in need.
He was raised by a single mother who was poor and unable to afford his college tuition! As a fatherless youth who understood his mother's financial situation, John performed extremely well academically and graduated from McKinley High School with three academic scholarships! John will collaborate with school board members, teachers union and other to ensure our school system and students are successful!
As a member of Police District 3 Citizens Advisory Council, Neighborhood Watch Founder/Coordinator and your Democratic Central Committee Member, John will build on his existing relationships with all law enforcement agencies throughout Prince George's County.
Due to his work in the community reducing crime and building relationships between citizens and the police department, he was awarded with an Outstanding Citizen Award by former Prince George's County Police Chief Mark A. Magaw!
He will collaborate with constituents and our law enforcement agencies to unite both entities of the community which will produce a quality of life acceptable to all who live, work, play, worship or visit District 25.
Roads & Pedestrian Safety
Roads and the safety of pedestrians as well as motorists are extremely important to John! He was chosen and accepted the position of Maryland State Highway Administration's (SHA) MD4 Pedestrian Safety Enhancement Community Task Force which collaborated with representatives from SHA, Department of Public Works & Transportation, Washington Metro Area Transit Authority, elected official representatives and concerned citizens to transform Pennsylvania Avenue from Silver Hill Road to Forestville Road into a safer corridor for everyone especially pedestrians.
It is a $24 million dollar project that is currently in construction and about 95% complete. Between the project boundary, MD4 was averaging about two to three deaths annually before this project came into existence! John and all task force members were passionate about eliminating and/or reducing vehicle pedestrian related deaths. As a result, the South Bound side has sidewalks, North Bound side has a hiker biker trail and continuous roadway lighting has been installed along with new drainage systems.
Reducing Blight & Beautifying Our County
John is passionate about improving the quality of life for everyone who lives, works, plays, worships and visits District 25. His Neighborhood Watch team members agreed to Adopt-A-Block and they participate in the County's Clean Up Green Up initiative as well as clean up the street they adopted annually.
